Toyota packs big sound system into subcompact Scion xD
Toyota set its
vehicle lease prices for the 2012 Scion xD this week, asking $15,345 for the five-speed manual model and $16,145 for the four-speed automatic transmission version.
For the money,
car leasing customers will get a five-door urban subcompact vehicle packed with technology like standard streaming audio through HD Radio capability and a hands-free phone connection with Bluetooth connectivity.
Scion has designed the car for young drivers, offering a thumping, 160-watt Pioneer audio system complete with an output jack for subwoofer speakers, dashboard-mounted USB and iPod ports and an organic electroluminescent (OEL) video screen.
True audiophiles can upgrade to the 200-watt Pioneer Premium audio system and 5.8-inch LCD touch-screen display.
However, that stereo option is one of the few choices available to buyers. Scion sells its vehicles as "mono spec" designs, packed with so many standard features that shoppers need only choose the exterior color and transmission type.
Due in dealerships in October, the car is powered by a modest, 128 horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Designed to be fun to drive, the car squats on a short, wide frame and grips the road with four-wheel anti-lock brakes, vehicle stability control and traction control.
