Hyundai stretches gas mileage to 35 mpg in 2012 Sonata
Hyundai has pumped up its 2012 Sonata sedan with improved fuel economy and technology, hoping to steal a march on car leasing rivals like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
With a choice between 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines, the sixth generation Sonata provides about 35 miles per gallon in highway driving and 24 mpg on city streets.
Inside the cabin, improvements include a new seven-inch touchscreen navigation display, optional rear backup camera and the automaker's Blue Link telematics system.
Blue Link encompasses infotainment, safety and service in a single network, hosting safety features such as automatic crash notification, SOS emergency notification and enhanced roadside assistance. Communicating through the car itself, smartphone or web, the system provides features including remote access (lock/unlock), voice-to-text messaging, location sharing, vehicle self diagnostics and theft protection.
Vehicle lease prices begin at $19,795 for the Sonata GLS, which is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Hyundai offers seven other trim levels, topped by the $28,195 Sonata Limited, including its 2.0-liter TGDI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.
