Hyundai designs 2012 Tucson as efficient SUV
Vehicle lease shoppers who are searching for a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) with impressive storage and performance no longer have to sacrifice fuel economy, Hyundai says.
The automaker unveiled its 2012 Tucson this week, announcing the car would get an estimated 32 miles per gallon in highway driving.
Engineers improved the efficiency and driving range of the compact SUV by installing an improved transmission, low rolling resistance silica tires, high efficiency air conditioning and a larger capacity fuel tank.
Compared to the previous model, the 2012 Tucson has adopted standard solar glass to reflect sun rays and reduce the need for air conditioning. It uses a fuel tank that has grown from 14.5 gallons to 15.3 gallons and relies on Hyundai's Active ECO System to improve fuel economy by smoothing out throttle response with modified automatic transmission control.
Car leasing prices start at $19,145 for the Tucson GL trim line with its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and 165 horsepower. The sticker price rises to $26,495 for the top-shelf Tucson Limited, packed with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine cooking up 176 hp, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
