Ford Focus sets mood lighting with choice of cabin colors
Automakers often turn to creative design in their quest to attract new car leasing customers, but Ford is heading in a new direction with the mood lighting in its latest Fusion sedan.
With a choice of seven colors for interior lighting, Ford is empowering drivers to select the hue that best suits their emotional state and helps promote better concentration on the road.
"Lighting gives you a sense of orientation," said Mahendra Dassanayake, Ford's technical leader for design. "It's a unique combination of functionality and comfort. Lights, graphics and displays are critical to drivers; we need to make sure that information is presented to the customer in an effective way."
Researchers have found that color can trigger a range of reactions in the human brain, influencing everything from buying decisions to blood pressure.
Accordingly, shoppers who choose a vehicle lease on the new Fusion can choose from ice blue, purple, royal blue, orange, red, white and green. The effect can evoke feelings from refreshing and relaxing (green) to attention-getting (red), cool and alert (ice blue), outgoing and optimistic (orange), magical and complex (purple) and quiet yet brilliant (white).
