Cadillac stocks 2013 ATX luxury sedan with deceptive engine
When General Motors presents its 2013 Cadillac ATS compact luxury sedan to the vehicle lease community at the Detroit car show in January, the automaker will spotlight its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The high-performance engine will spin out 270 horsepower thanks to direction-injection design, while retaining better fuel efficiency than the heavy, eight-cylinder designs usually found under the hoods of glossy sedans.
Measured as power density, the little dynamo creates 135 horsepower per liter. That figure ranks the Cadillac ATS well above luxury, big-block car leasing rivals including the Audi A4, BMW M3, Lexus IS F and Mercedes-Benz C250, GM says.
"The 2.0T is one of the most advanced and efficient engines of its kind, and contributes to the ATS's exceptional balance of performance and great fuel efficiency," said Mike Anderson, chief engineer for the 2.0T engine. "It has the exhilarating, responsive power available when you want it, yet can provide the fuel efficiency that will make the ATS a fully competitive vehicle in global markets."
When they receive the car in showrooms next summer, dealers will also offer shoppers a choice of a normally-aspirated, 2.5-liter four cylinder engine and a 3.6-liter V-6.
